Overview

Is Tellme really a free service?

Yes! 1-800-555-TELL is a toll-free number you can call from any phone. When you call from your mobile phone, standard airtime usage applies based on your mobile phone plan.

The Tellme download for your mobile phone is also free, but if you do not have an unlimited data plan, your wireless service provider may charge data usage fees for downloading and using the application. If you do not know if you have a data plan, or are uncertain what your data rates are, please contact your wireless provider.

How do I get Tellme?

You can get all the info you need on the go by calling 1-800-555-TELL from any phone, or download Tellme to your mobile phone for fast, easy access to businesses, maps, movies, weather, and more!

To download Tellme to your mobile phone, point your phone's browser to m.tellme.com, or follow the steps on the Tellme website to select your phone type and download Tellme. If you download Tellme from the website, a text message will be sent to your phone. Once you receive the text message, follow the steps from the website to open the link in the text message, install Tellme, and create quick access.

How do I use Tellme?

To use Tellme from any phone, simply call 1-800-555-TELL and say one of the categories offered in the Main Menu.

To use the Tellme download for your mobile phone:

  • Press and hold down the TALK key on your mobile phone, as prompted on the screen
  • Say what you want (e.g., "Starbucks", "Traffic", or "Weather")
  • Release the TALK key
  • Wait for the results to be displayed on your phone's screen
  • You can also type what you want on nearly every screen

How do I manage my favorites and preferences on Tellme?

No matter where you're going or what you're doing, Tellme Favorites on 1-800-555-TELL delivers your personal update right when you need it. You can personalize 1-800-555-TELL to tell you about your favorite info, including stock quotes, weather, and individual sports teams, every time you call.

To get started:

  • Say "Favorites" from the Main Menu, then sign in using your 4-digit PIN.
  • At the Main Menu, choose whatever menu option you'd like to make a Favorite. For example, say "Sports" and then "Baseball". Once you're in the area you want, say "Add to My Favorites".
  • To hear your favorites, simply say "Favorites" from the Main Menu. When listening to your Favorites, if you hear one you'd like to remove, just say "Remove from My Favorites".

You can also manage your preferences for Business Search on 1-800-555-TELL:

  • By default, when you call 1-800-555-TELL from your mobile phone and request Business Search, you will automatically receive a text message with your search results.
  • To stop receiving automatic text messages, call 1-877-499-8355 and say "Yes" when asked if you want to turn off auto-text messaging.

Requirements

Is my phone supported?

You can use Tellme on any phone by calling 1-800-555-TELL.

To check to see if the Tellme download is available for your phone, click here and enter your phone and carrier information. If your phone or carrier is not listed, sign up to receive a message when your phone becomes supported.

For Blackberry users, the Tellme application is officially supported on devices with OS 4.3X and below. To verify your Blackberry OS:

  • Select the Options icon from the Blackberry menu or from the Settings folder
  • Select the About link
  • View the third line (eg. v4.2.2.169)

Is my carrier supported?

Currently, the Tellme download is available for select AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, and Helio phones. Of course, you can always use Tellme by calling 1-800-555-TELL, which works for all phones and all carriers.

Troubleshooting

How do I install the Tellme download for my mobile phone?

Follow the steps on the Tellme website to receive a text message with a link to download Tellme to your phone.

If you didn't receive a text message, return to the instruction page and select 'Send another', and Tellme will send one to your phone.

Once you receive the text message, follow the steps listed below for your phone to open the link in the text message, install Tellme, and create quick access.

If you received a text message, but see an error such as "Authentication Error" or "Operation Failed" when you click on the link, it may be because your phone was not purchased through one of our supported carriers. Due to carrier security, Tellme is only available on phones purchased directly through our supported carriers. The technical reason for this is that voice recording requires high security permission, and we do not currently have a way to access this security level for phones that do not come directly from our supported carriers.

It's not recognizing my request, what should I do?

Tell us about it so we can improve our voice recognition! Contact Us and include the number you used to reach Tellme, the request you made, and what Tellme thought you said. Your phone number will only be used for debugging purposes - we won't call or text you with unsolicited messages.

How do I uninstall Tellme from my mobile phone?

Follow the standard uninstallation process for your phone's applications. Each phone is different. In general, try going to your applications menu, and viewing the options for the Tellme application.

How can I find out what's new on Tellme?

If you'd like to be notified when there are new features available on Tellme, sign up to receive email updates.

How do I update business information provided by Tellme?

A third-party data provider gathers the business information that Tellme provides in the Tellme download and on 1-800-555-TELL, so we are unable to directly add or correct specific business information.

If you would like to add or correct information that is listed for your business, please use the easy form on the InfoUSA website. Please be advised that it takes some time for InfoUSA to process the updates and send them to us, so the correction will not be available right away.
